Oklahoma

Shaped something like a meat cleaver poised above Texas, the Sooner State was homesteaded in a novel way. In 1889, a land rush opened up Oklahoma Country (the so-called Unassigned Lands) to homesteading. Not everyone played by the rules. Some snuck across the starting line before the signal was given. These cheaters came to be called “Sooners.” After Oklahoma became a state in 1907, this pejorative became a term of waggish self-regard for unabashed Oklahomans. The name Oklahoma is a combination of two Choctaw words “okla,” which means “people,” and homma, which means “red.” In the Choctaw language, Oklahoma Territory meant “Indian Territory.” Oklahoma is the only state in the Union that has an official state meal. It’s quite a spread, a comprehensive tour of southern specialties, consisting of barbecue pork, biscuits with sausage and gravy, chicken fried steak, cornbread, black-eyed peas, grits, corn, fried okra, squash, strawberries, and pecan pie.

About me:
I'm a married, homeschooling mom of four, but my most important job is ambassador for Christ Jesus! The 4 Spiritual Laws: God loves you, Sin separates you from God, Jesus died for your sins, You can be saved by confessing Jesus is Lord -Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Heavenly Father, I believe you love me. I believe Jesus died for me and rose from the dead. Today, I confess Jesus as my Lord and receive the forgiveness of all my sins. Holy Spirit, come into my life. Thank You for saving me, in Jesus' name. Amen

Stovetop Granola

Reviewed on Oct. 10, 2008 by spaceflower
WOW! I just made granola! What a fantastic recipe, and a great way to save big bucks at the grocery store. I doubled the recipe and like other reviewers didn't change the amount of butter or sugar per extra 2 c oats. However, I thought it needed a little more sweet and added extra brown sugar at the end. I put about a cup of dried bananas, a cup and a half of cranberries, 4 tbsp honey, a cup of chopped walnuts and about a cup and a half of dried coconut. If you like your granola to stick together more, leave the recipe the way it is. I like using less butter and the granola came out fantastic! You could add just about anything you have on hand to this and make it great, cinnamon, almonds, raisins and a little allspice would make a really great fall mix. Tons of variations are possible and they'll all come out scrum-diddly-umptious I am sure! ENJOY! If you love granola, truly you cannot afford not to try this recipe. Literally -- this is going to save us SO much money :) And it's SO EASY!

Hawaiian Sandwiches

While I was making this hubby was watching and he said, "What in the world are you doing?!!!!" I was a little hesitant too to try this recipe but finally did. I'll have to say this was pretty good and if you like ham and pineapple together, then this will appeal to your taste buds too. I'd eat it again, but it didn't really have any WOW factor. A bit on the dry side though and could use some type of sauce, maybe a honey mustard? Thanks, this was a nice change of pace for lunch.
