These are the apple dumplings my grandmother used to make: warm, flaky, sweet, and drizzled with a sauce that bakes right with them. These are not difficult to make, just a little time-consuming. Serve warm with whipped cream or ice cream.

A medley of apples, raisins, orange zest, apple and orange juices are simmered in this family version of mincemeat. Make the filling in advance and refrigerate until ready to use, or bake immediately in a double-crust pie. If desired, stir 1 to 2 tablespoons of brandy into the filling to enrich the flavors.

My grandmother used to make this pie when we had Christmas at her house. She used a paper bag to cover the pie, but in the updated version we use parchment paper. It is a very old recipe. Enjoy!
